Predict genetic and phenotypic outcomes in future descendent
Predict genetic and phenotypic outcomes in future descendent females of a human population containing reproductively active males that possess an inversion within the p arm of Y between the centromere and PAR1
Solution
We want genotypic and phenotypic outcomes in future descendent females of a human population containing repructively active MALES that posses inversion in the p arm of Y chromosome between centromere and PAR1 .
The point to be noted is there is a mutation in the Y chromosome of the males and the question is asked for changes in daughter females. Females carry two X chromosome ps, one inherited from the mother and the other inherited from the father, since , the females are not going to inherit the Y chromosome from the father, there is not going to be any change in the phenotype or genotype of the daughters due to the mutation in the Y chromosome, unless it is mentioned that there are any changes in the X chromosome.
If the same mutation were to be in the X chromosome, the mutation would have been inherited by the daughter as there would be only one X chromosome to be passed on from the father and which would be defected.
Thus, no changes are to be expected int the daughter\'s genotype and phenotype with a mutation in the father\'s Y chromosome.
