As said by Pierce in the book \"Leaders & Leadership Process\" it is possible to define the direct effect of the leadership behaviour as one which occurs when a particular behavioural aspect of the leader influences his subordinate so that he is effected by it immediately or in the present.

Example: If a leader behaviour is full of positive energy and fire, then the team under him will be immediatley exhibiting the same behavioural pattern

Indirect effect may be defined as the effect of the implications of the behavioural pattern of the leader in which the implication will be in future.

Example: Continuously degrading the subordinate will lower the morale and he may not co-operate and contribute to the team\'s cause. After some time the team will suffer due to this.
