Explain what single human development most contributed to the evolution of the human malaria parasite. Be sure to include some details of how this event(s) resulted in the dissemination of malaria. Think about current human activities that are further contributing to the evolution of Malaria.

Solution

Agriculture as an occupation started some 10000 years ago in the western countries specifically in Africa and this introduction of agricultural practice into Africa contributed the most to the evolution and human malaria parasite. The Neolithic agrarian revolution began in Central Africa some 4,000 to 5,000 years ago and this resulted in the adaptations of the Anopheles vectors of human malaria. The human populations in sub-Saharan Africa changed their life-style from hunting to communal living in tropical forests. This paved the way for use of many small water bodies to be used by the human habitations.Ultimately, there was an increase in the mosquito population as they had easier access to human blood. The anthropophilic index of the vectors of malaria is less than 50% and often less than 10 to 20% in the East due to use of domestic animals along with agriculture but in African countries, it is 80 to 100%as people in Africa mainly use agriculture as their occupation. The parasites spread through humans as they migrated to the Mediterranean, Mesopotamia, the Indian peninsula and South-East Asia and other parts of the world.Current human activities of deforestation, water pollution, improper sanitation and drainage have contributed to the evolution of malaria.
