Determine the number of moles of oxygen gas in the following

Determine the number of moles of oxygen gas in the following container.

The container holds 0.48 m3 at 68.6oF and an a gauge pressure of 41.46kPa.

Solution

Volume V = 0.48 m 3

Temprature F = 68.6 o F

We know relation between kelvin scale temprature K and fharenheit scale temprature F is

      (K-273)/100 = (F-32)/180

      (K-273)/100 = (68.6-32)/180

                        = 0.203333

             K -273 = 20.333

                    K = 293.33 kelvin

Gauge pressure = 41.46 kPa

Pressure of the gas P = atmosphere pressure + gauge pressure

                                = 101 kPa +41.46 kPa

                                = 142.46 kPa

                                 = 142.46 x10 3 Pa

From the relation PV = nRT

From this number of moles n = PV/RT

                                          =(142.46 x10 3)(0.48)/(8.314)(293.33)

                                          = 28.04 mol

Determine the number of moles of oxygen gas in the following container. The container holds 0.48 m3 at 68.6oF and an a gauge pressure of 41.46kPa.SolutionVolume
