One of the methods used to reduce Greenhouse gas emissions is \"Carbon Capture and Storage\". You are working in a plant that performs carbon capture and storage. You have a stream of 100 kg/s of flow. It is 25 (mol) % water vapour, the balance CO_2. What are the mass flow rates of each component? Without doing any calculations, bound the answers. Solution
To determine flow rate we do following steps:
Water molecular weight = 18 so
1 mol of H2O = 18 g weight.
1 mol CO2 = 44g weight
So both have to meet together to form 100Kg/s flow.
The net proportion of H2O and CO2 in 1 mole of flow = 18/44 = 9/22
But H2O proportion is only 25 % of real so the real proportion is = 9/22 x 25/100
= 9/22 x ¼
Now the net flow of H2O would be = 100 Kg/s x 9/22 x ¼ = 900/88 Kg/s
= 10.22 Kg/s
And the rest is CO2 = 100- 10.23 = 89.77 Kg/s
In t/h = ton/hour = multiply by 907.2/ 3600
