A) Consider a 1-m x 1.6-m horizontal plate in a room at 20oC. Its top surface is insulated, while the bottom surface is maintained at a temperature of 80oC. Determine the rate of heat transfer from the plate by natural convection.
A) Consider a 1-m x 1.6-m horizontal plate in a room at 20oC. Its top surface is insulated, while the bottom surface is maintained at a temperature of 80oC. Determine the rate of heat transfer from the plate by natural convection.

Solution

We know that heat transfer by natural convection Q = hA(T2-T1)

here A = 1.6 m2

T2 - T1 = 60oC

h = 100 W/m2 K

Q = 100*1.6*60

Q = 9.6 kJ
