A Klingon spacecraft has a speed of 0.74c with respect to the earth. The Klingons measure 28.0 h for the time interval between two events on the earth. What value for the time interval would they measure if their ship had a speed of 0.93c with respect to the earth?

Solution

using formula

Y= 1/sqrt(1 - v^2/c^2)

at 0.74c,

Y = 1/sqrt(1 - 0.74^2) = 1.48

at 0.93c,

Y = 1/sqrt(1 - 0.93^2) = 2.72

the actual time for the interval measured on earth would be 28* 1.48 = 41.44 hours

So 0.93c that is compressed to 41.44 hours / 2.72 = 15.23 hours
