A box contains 75 light bulbs, of which 8 are defective. If Matthew randomly selects 10 light bulbs, in how many ways could he select at least 1 defective light bulb?

Solution

75 light bulbs, 8 defective

P(defective) =8/75

P(non-defective) =67/75

75 light bulbs, 8 defective

P(defective) =8/75

P(non-defective) =67/75

P(select at least 1 defective bulb) =1- P(no defective bulb) = 1- 67/75 * 66/ 74 * 65/73 .....till 10 bulbs are drawn

=1- (65*64*63.....58 / 75*74*73.....*68)

= 1-0.299=1- .3= 0.7
ans-0.7
