Sunshine Gardens determines the following demand function during early summer for tomato plants
Find:
a) find the elacticity
b) find the elacticity when x = 3
c) at $3 per plant, will a small increase in price cause total revenue to increase or decrease?
Please show steps so I can better understand :). Thanks.
Solution
Elasticity = (P/Q)dQ/dP
Q = 2x +300(10x +11) where x is price
So, dQ/dx =2 - 3000/(10x +11)^2
a) elasticity = 2 - 3000/(10x +11)^2
b) elasticity when x=3
elasticity = 2 - 3000/(30 +11)^2 = 0.215
c) at x= $3
elasticity means: It\'s the percentage change in quantity demanded that comes from a 1% change in the price.
As elasticity < 1If price goes up , the total revenue spending goes up.
