The Life Stressor Scale which measures the amount of stress

The Life Stressor Scale, which measures the amount of stress a person is dealing with, was used to compare the burden of caregivers. Four groups were compared (A: New mothers, B: Caring for a sick family member, C: Caring for elderly parents, and D: Caring for small children). Abbreviated output from an ANOVA is shown below. Assuming alpha=0.05, what can you conclude and why? Should we make any comparisons between groups? If yes, what conclusions can we draw and why? If not, why not? Dependent Variable: stressor Least Squares Means for effect group Pr > [t] for HO: LSMean(i)=LSMean(j) Dependent Variable: stressor

Solution

a) p >0.05, so we accept the null hypothesis and conclude that the means are equal.

b) comparisions are not required, since we have concluded that the means are equal.
