For the loads shown above what is the combined resultant and
For the loads shown above, what is the combined resultant and distance from the left side?
Solution
>> Let, F1 = Resultant due to uniform distributed loading of 500 lb/ft
As, It is area under the load
=> F1 = 500*8 = 4000 lb
and, it will act at 8/2 = 4 ft from left side
>> Let, F2 = Resultant due to triangular loading with maximum of (1100 - 500) = 600 lb/ft
=> F2 = (1/2)*4*600 = 1200 lb
and, it will act at (8 - 4/3) = 6.667 ft, from left side
>> So, Resultant Force, F = F1 + F2 = 4000 + 1200 = 5200 lb
Let, it acts at distance \"x\" from left side.
>> As, Moment should be same
So, Moment about left end = F*x = 4*4000 + 6.667*1200
=> 5200*x = 24000
=> x = 4.615 ft ......REQUIRED DISTANCE OF RESULTANT FORCE FROM THE LEFT END .......ANSWER.....
