Light emitting diode (LED) converts electric current directly into light.It is designed to light up in a DC (direct current) circuit. LEDs as a light source are one of the most efficient ways to make safe light currently known. The LED is much more efficient than an incandescent light bulb or a fluorescent light bulb which give off more heat, wasting energy.But LED emits less amount of heat and it is also more efficient.

The one of the legs of the LED is longer than the other and also one should be careful about it because the longer indicates that it is a positive lead which is known as anode if one does not take care of it while connecting and if he connected in reverse position then the LED will burn out so before connecting to circuit one should take care of it.for example If the LED has two leads both of the leads are equal in length, than we can look at the metal plate inside the LED. The smaller plate indicates the positive (anode) lead; the larger plate belongs to the negative (cathode) lead.
