     The boat can travel with a speed of 16 km/h in still water. The point of destination is located along the dashed line. If the water is moving at 4 km/h, determine the bearing angle theta at which the boat must travel to stay on course.

  Solution
Solution:
Speed of boat in still water = 16 km/hr (east)
Speed of water flow = 4 km/hr (south)
Relative velocity of boat wrt water flow is given by = 16-4 = 12 km/h
Angle of resultant with base is given by tan x = 4/12
x = 18.43
From given figure
x + 70 + theta = 90
theta = 1.56
therefore baring angle for given case is 1.56 degree.
