According to a synchronous generator ( Alternator) principle

There is fixed relationship between Speed (N) , frequency (f) & no of poles (P) to have a rated induced Emf in Armature Conductors.

The relationship is Synchronous Speed Ns = 120*f/ P

Therefore the speed should be atleast

if the frequency is 50 hz, then the speed (Ns) required to produce the rated induced EMF is

Ns= 120*50/12= 500 RPM.

Therefore the speed should be atleast

N = 120*60/12 =600 RPM.
