Solution
Organic molecules do not dissolve properly in water due to their non polar nature. Salt on the other hand is able to dissolve in water and forms strong bonds. As the bonds between water and salt are formed it becomes a strong solution. In order to desalinate we need to break this strong bond between water and salt. This is done either by reverse osmosis or by evaporation. In the process of evaporation the water is first completely evaporated and the salt residue is left behind. Then the water is obtained by cooling down the steam through a coil. This process is very hectic and not economical due to which reverse osmosis is mostly preferred for desalinating water.
