Consider a 4-sided die shaped like a triangular pyramid with the numbers 1, 2, 3 , and 4 marked on each side (one number per side ) . The number that appears on the bottom of the face of the die is recorded as the number rolled.

Which experimental result would provide the strongest support for the argument that the die is fair ?

A. In 10 tosses , the number 4 was rolled 3 times
B. In 100 tosses , the number 4 was rolled 8 times
C. In 1000 tosses , the number 4 was rolled 111 times
D. In 10000 tosses, the number 4 was rolled 2489 times

(An explanation will help too please . This question has been killing me for days now lol )

Solution

For the die to be fair, all the outcomes should be equally likely. There are 4 possible outcomes so each outcome has probability 1/4 or 0.25 for the die to be fair.

In 10 rolls the number 4 should be come 2.5 times theortically.

In 100 rolls the number 4 should be come 25 times theortically.

In 1000 rolls the number 4 should be come 250 times theortically.

In 10000 rolls the number 4 should be come 2500 times theortically.

So D gives the strongest support for the argument that the die is fair.

--------------

Or you can find the probability for each case:

A: 3/10=0.3

B: 8/100=0.08

C: 111/1000=0.111

D: 2489/10000=0.2489

From this way also, option D provide the strongest support for the argument that the die is fair .
