At first glance. African savannas appear to be structurally simple and relatively homogenous habitats, i.e. grasslands sparsely populated with trees. Despite this apparent simplicity of savanna habitats, the mammalian biodiversity observed in savannas is quite impressive. The figures, below, taken from the course textbook (Figures 5.27 and 5.19. respectively) illustrate one of the principle \"forces\" driving (i.e. biodiversity) in African savannas. Discuss these figures, what they represent, and elaborate fully and completely on the relationship between the phenomenon depicted in the figures and mammalian biodiversity. The state of a savanna ecosystem, at any given moment, is shaped by a number of forces acting upon it. Theoretically, in a pristine savanna, these forces would be in balance, over a sufficiently long time horizon. Discuss the interactions of: trees/grass/fire, and browsers/grazers/elephants in shaping the savanna ecosystem.

Solution

1)The pictures show the african savannah and their habitat. The savanna is a rolling grassland scattered with shrubs and isolated trees as shown in the picture and they can be found between a tropical rainforest as shown in the second picture here.

2)Savanna ecosystem has trees and grasses on which the animals like elephants are fed on.In case of any fire, the gazers are always present to see the situation and prevent the animals from being hurt and plants from burnin. The savanna are found in bulk in africa where the mammals feed on to.
