A 6-pole dc shunt generator has an armature winding of wave-wound with 500 conductors. Find the flux per pole if the generator rotates at 400 rev/min and generates no load terminal voltage of 150 V. If the flux is kept constant, what would be the no load terminal voltage if the armature rotates at 600 rev/min.

Solution

A) E=(flux*no of conductors*speed*poles)/(60*no of parallel paths)

Here no of conductors=500

Speed=400rev/min,

Poles=6,

No of parallel paths=2 for wave winding

E generated emf=150

So flux=(150*60*2)/(500*400*6)=0.015wb

B) flux is constant means 0.015wb and speed is 600rev/min

No load terminal voltage=(flux*n o of conductors*speed*no of poles)/(60*no of parallel paths)

E=(0.015*500*600*6)/(60*2)=225volts
