Would you rather have a type 1 or type 2 erro when null hypo

Would you rather have a type 1 or type 2 erro when null hypothesis assumes you don\'t have a disease until proven that you do? Explain.

Solution

Null hypothesis is that we dont have a disease. Accepting the null hypothesis is desirable as we desire to be healthy. However, if we actually are diseased, accepting the null hypothesis may lead to a error which might cause acute medical problems due to failure in diagnosing the disease on time.

So accepting the null hypothesis, when it is actually false, is dangerous and is highly undesirable.

Thus, type 2 error is highly undesirable.

Thus, we would rather have type 1 error, as it will lead to only unnecessary treatment when we actually dont have the disease.
