Next, consider a nail lying on its side as in the picture below and answer the following questions (The top view of the nail is shown.) 1. Can you see the whole image of the nail from any viewing angle? Explain your answer.

Solution

a) No at all viewing angles whole part of the nail could not be seen. For instance, if one looks from the top the nail will look like a dot in a circle. THe lateral surface of the nail would not be visible. From down only the head of the nail will be visible. If one looks sidewise lateral surface will be visible, not the top or bottom.

b) It all depends on which surface one is looking at when we look at a three dimensional figure.
