A ball is thrown vertically upward from ground level. Willl linear air resistance cause the ball to return to ground level soonner or later thnt it would in a vacuum? Decide by using first order perturbation theory
Solution
While going up, both gravity and air resistance will act in the same direction, hence, net downward acceleration will be more than acceleration due to gravity g.
Hence, the ball will take longer to reach the maximum height and the max height will be less than that due to air resistance in vaccum.
While coming down, net acceleration will be less than g and it will take longer to reach the ground.
