Describe the following: relative humidity, specific humidity, adiabatic saturation, psychrometric chart.
Solution
Relative Humidity:
It the ratio of the partial pressure of water vapor in the mixture to the saturated partial pressure at the dry bulb temperature, expressed as percentage.
Specific Humidity:
It is the ratio of the mass of water vapor per unit mass of dry air in the mixture of vapor and air. It is generally expressed as grams of water per kg of dry air. It is a function of dew point temperature alone for a given barometric pressure. It is also termed as Humidity ratio.
Adiabatic Saturation:
It is the saturation of air by evaporating adiabatically water or ice into it.
Psychrometric Chart:
These charts are graphical representation of all the necessary moist air properties used for air conditioning calculations.
The most convenient coordinates are dry bulb temperature of air vapor mixture as the abcissa and moisture content (kg/kg of dry air) or water vapor pressure as the ordinate.
