Describe all of the ways to mitigate noise and unwanted signals when making ECG measurements.
Solution
Generally filters are used to mitigate noise and unwanted signals when making ECG measurements. While doing ECG work, the signal levels are very small which are around 1mV, so therefore there is necessary to use filtering to remove a wide range of noise. This noise may come from an unstable dc offset from electrode/body interface, muscle noise, electrical noise from equipment in the environment and from within the ECG equipment itself. A filter works by reducing or removing frequencies where noise occurs. There are two types of filters which are used in ECG to reduce noise one is low pass filter it reduces high frequency components and other is high pass filter which is opposite to low pass filter the high pass filter reduces low frequency components. Besides this notch filter can also be used which is the combination of both high and low pass filter.
