let x be the amount they spend on dinner

6% sales tax on x ==> (6/100)x = 0.06x

10% tip on x ==> (10/100)x = 0.1x

==> x + 0.06x + 0.1x = 2400

==> x(1 + 0.06 + 0.1) = 2400

==> x(1.16) = 2400

==> x = 2400/1.16

==> x = 2068.9655

Hence they can spend $2068.97 before tax and tip.
