A statistical assumptions are the basic for statistical analysis. For testing different claim or to make prdiction we have to assume certain things. Like in linear regression we assume that one random variable dependends on only one random variable. Or in case of testing a large population for certain characteristics we take a sample and assume certain things regarding the population. Because it is literally not possible to analyse the whole population fpr that characteristic.
