One hundred grams 100g of fresh grapes containing 90 moistur

One hundred grams (100g) of fresh grapes containing 90% moisture on a wet basis were dried overnight in a hot air oven. In the morning,we had 20g of dried grapes.

a.         What would the moisture content of the dried grapes be on a wet basis?

b.         What would the moisture content be on a dry basis? Please show calculation.

Solution

a)As originally 100 gms of grapes contained 90% of water and remaining was 10% of grapes weight it means 10 gms of grapes weight. After overnight in oven water was absorbed totally and remaining weight was 10gms of grapes and remining water

b) the moisture content of dry grapes will be 10 gms and remaing will be weight of grapes

total weight of grapes =100 gms

moisture content=90gms

weight of grapes=moisture weight - total weoght=100-90=10

weight of grapes after overnight in oven=20gms=moisture+dry grapes weight

hence dry weight grapes weight=10 gms

One hundred grams (100g) of fresh grapes containing 90% moisture on a wet basis were dried overnight in a hot air oven. In the morning,we had 20g of dried grape
