Two cyclists, 64 miles apart, start riding toward each other at the same time. One cycles 3 times as fast as the other. If they meet 2 hours later, what is the speed (in mi/h) of the faster cyclist?
Solution
Let speed of one cyclist be x mph
speed of other cyclist = 3x mph
They meet after 2 hrs
distance d1 = 2x
distance d2 = 3x* 2= 6x
Total distance = 2x +6x = 8x
8x = 64
x = 64/8 = 8 mph
faster cuclist = 3x = 24 mph
