19 Given a set of genotype frequencies like AA 03 Aa 06 aa
19. Given a set of genotype frequencies, like AA = 0.3, Aa = 0.6, aa = 0.1, give the allele frequencies, determine whether the population is or is not in H-W equilibrium, whether there is an excess of homozygotes or heterozygotes, and whether the population is likely to be evolving
Solution
Frequency of A = 0.3 + (1/2 X 0.6) = 0.6 (p)
frequency of a = 0.1 + (1/2 x 0.6) = 0.4 (q)
as p+q = 1 , then the population must following the hardy-Weinberg equilibrium. There is no excess in heterozygous or homozygous individual and the population is not evolving as the equilibrium is not neutral.
