*Please explain your answer! I had to post this question again becuase there was unclear answer with no explantion. I only have very limited questions, so please dont answer if you\'re not sure or have no explanation. Thanks!!*
7. In the summer squash, Cucurbita pepo, the fruit is normally disk shaped. Two recessive mutations, g and r, are known in different geographical races of the species, both of which cause fruit to be spherical. In crosses between homozygous gg and m stocks, the F1 is always disk-shaped. However, when such F1 hybrids were interbred, it was discovered that ggrr plants make fruit that is elongated. A. Are the mutations g and rallelic? B. How can you justify your answer to A? c If the F1 hybrids described above are interbred, write the genotypes and phenotypes expected in the F and their expected ratios.Solution
Yes, the mutations in g and r allele are allelic. It is because both are on cross produce different phenotypes while they share same phenotypes individually. That indicates during the cross between g and r the locus of both alleles suppresses effects of both alleles which in the consequences produce different phenotypes. If the mutations were present in different locus, the wild type progeny would produce.
That phenomenon can test by Complementation test which will reveal about the cis- trans effect.
F1 hybrid ggrr are inbred
ggrr x ggrr
progenies in F2 ggrr [ elongated]
