Question 4. In a group of 100 people, 44 like juice, 81 like coffee, and each person likes at least one of the two drinks. How many like both juice and coffee?

Solution

44 people like juice and 81 people like coffee and there are total 100 people.

Lets say \'x\' people like both juice and coffee.

people like juice only must be 44-x

people like coffee only must be 81-x

And we know there are 100 people so we can write as,

44-x +x + 81-x = 100

By simplifying we get,

44 - x +81 = 100

125 - x = 100

and we get x = 25.

Therefore we can say that the number of people who likes both juice and coffee = 25
