A ship is placed in a dry dock and the dry dock is filled until the ship just floats. By measuring the volume of water in the dock with and without the ship in it, it is found that 10,000 ft^3 of seawater is displaced by the ship. If gamma is 64.3 lb/ft^3, determine the weight of the ship.

Solution

Now, Volume Displaced by Ship, V = 10,000 ft3

And, density of sea water, d = 64.3 lb/ft3

>> So, mass of the ship = V*d = 640.3*103 lb

and, Weight of the ship, W = mg = 6.28*106 lbf. .......ANSWER....
