Clostridium difficile infection (CDI) is a symptomatic infection due to the spore forming bacterium, clostridium difficile. The CDI is spread by bacterial spores found within faeces. The main symptoms / signs of clostridium difficile infection includes:

1. Water diarrhoea 10 to 15 times a day

2. Abdominal cramping and pain, which may be severe

3. Rapid heart rate and fever

4. Blood or pus in the stool

5. Nausea, dehydration and loss of appetite.

6. Complications may include pseudomembranous colitis, toxic megacolon, perforation of colon, and sepsis.
