3. In city A the mean temperature is 50 degrees with the standard deviation of 4.1 degrees. In city B the mean temperature is 62 degrees with a standard deviation of 14.8 degrees. I like consistency and prefer to live in a place where the temperature is about the same from day to day. Based on the temperature data, which city would be the better place for me to live?
Please solve and show your work please. Thank you for your hlep with this problem.
Solution
The measure of consistency that can be used here is coefficient of variation (c.v.) which is defined as
cv = (sd / mean ) *100% where sd is the standard deviation.
Lower the value of cv better is the consistency.
For city A, cv(A) = (4.1 /50)*100 % = 8.2 %
For city B, cv(B) = (14.8 / 62) *100% = 23.87 %
Since cv(A) is lesser than cv(B) the temperature in city A is about the same from day to day, city A would be better place for you to live.
