Find the equation of the line through the yintercept of fx

Find the equation of the line through the y|-intercept of f(x) = 6x^2 - 1 + x^8 - 8x^5| and the x|-intercept of g(x) = 3x + 9|. Y = | (give your line as an equation in terms of x)

Solution

f(x)= 6x^2 -1   + x^8 -8x^5

to find the y intercept we have to plug x=0

Therefore f(x)= 6(0)^2 - 1 + 0^8 -8(0)^5 = -1

Therefore y intercept is -1

g(x)=3x+9

To find the x intercept we have to plug g(x)=0

0=3x+9

x=-3

Therefore x intercept is -3

And we know that slope intercept form is

y=mx + b

Here b=-1

and when x=-3 y=0

0=-3m -1

m=-1/3

So the required equation is

y= (-1/3)x -1
