In a RLC circuit a 101 resistor an 800 mH inductor and a 500

In a RLC circuit, a 101 resistor, an 80.0 mH inductor, and a 5.00 F capacitor are connected in series with an AC power source for which the peak voltage is 173 V and frequency is 100 Hz. Calculate the average power dissipated by the resistor. Express your answer to one decimal place.

Solution

Vrms = Vpeak/sqrt(2) = 173/sqrt(2) = 122.32 V

Z = 101 + j*(2pi*100*80*10^-3) - j/2pi*100*5*10^-6

Pav = Re(Vrms^2/Z) = 122.32^2)/(101 + -268 j) = 18.42 Watt
