Leaf Paper Chromatography In general carotenoids absorb wave
Leaf Paper Chromatography
In general, carotenoids absorb wavelengths ranging from 400-550 nanometers and the key role that they serve is to protect chlorophyll from photodamage.
For each of the three following pigments, use the introduction to the instructions and your own internet research to determine their color, the range(s) of wavelengths (in nm) that they primarily absorb, and the range(s) of wavelengths (in nm) that they primarily reflect: 1) Chlorophyll; 2) Carotene; 3) Xanthophyllin.
Please specify wavelength ranges for chlorophyll, carotene, and xanthophylin.
Solution
Chlorophyll
colour:Green
wavelength range: Wavelengths of chlorophyll are 430 nm and 664 nm
Carotene
colour: Reddish orange
wavelength range: wavelength range of 700 nm to 400 nm
Xanthophylin
colour:yellow
wavelengths 400-550 nm comprise the green-blue-indigo-violet spectrum of visible light.
