Question) Read the following paragraphs and then write a short reaction essay (1-2 paragraphs).
In the article, Scientists as Writers, Laura Jane Martin discusses how scientists, like us, may dread reading other scientific articles. Sometimes, although these articles are meant to be direct and straightforward, they may confuse their audience with big, technical terminology. Primary articles may be confusing, especially if their audeince does not have a background in the subject. In these instances, a scientific journalist is even necessary to translate the article further for the audience to comprehend. Martin points out that the modern mode of scientific writing hopes to clarify that from the 1700s in a more meaningful way. Modern scientific writing conveys neutrality and authority, and has long been respected in this manner.
In my freshman year writing class, we had to compare a scientific article with a secondary article that was based on it. Generally speaking, a reader with no background in a subject may find it much easier to understand a secondary article than its referenced counterpart. I\'ve had to work with many scientifc articles over the years of my college career for projects and presentations. With time, they become less painful, although it is never \"easy reading\". Overall, I think we, as scientists, tend to neglect our writing capabilities and focus instead on our potential in the lab, research, or practice. From a young age, we may have been taught to differentiate our strengths from our weaknesses. In doing so, we tend to only hinder, instead of cultivate our writing potential. I believe that scientists should prioritize exceling in both fields, especially in the hopes of a future publication. I believe that this class will help me to better understand my uniified role of a student scientist and writer wrapped into one.
Solution
It\'s been observed that scientist instead of making their research simple and straightforward in their research articles, will make them complex using technical terms, finally confusing the readers. If the readers are not having subject background, then someone needs to translate the article to make them to understand. According to Martin, from the 1700\'s, the way the articles were written has been changed to provide clarity.
During the freshman year writing class, the comparison of scientific article with its secondary article revealed the fact the how a article in simple words will help the reader to understand the content in better way, even readers without any background in the subject. It is advisable for scientist to concentrate on their writing capabilities as well as on their research, so that we can improve out writing skills and should have proficiency in both research as well as in presentation of articles in an excellent way, so that readers can take better advantage of it.
