How is the address mask specified when a computer is assigned an IP address?
How is the address mask specified on the router side?
Solution
The address mask specified when a computer is a ssigned an IP is provided by the DHCP in the router. The mask is 255.255.255.0 which is a CLASS C Network.
The router gets its IP and Subnet from an ISP - they generally give a CLASS B mask i.e. 255.255.0.0 to accomodate many networks.
IP defines a address of PC; Subnet defines to which network does the IP belong to.
IP is like flat number, and Subnet is like building name/street name to where it is.
