Each of the following functions represents either a fixed doubling time or a fixed half-life exponential process. Identify which are doubling times (growth) and which are having times (decay). Also state the initial amount and give the half-life or doubling time as appropriate. f(t) = 25 middot 2^t/6 g(t) = 100 middot (1/2)t/5730 h(t) = 1.75 middot (1/2)t/29

Solution

a) WIth the increase in the value of t, the f(t) will be going to increase with the doubling rate of t=6, hence the function f(t) will double every 6 years

b) WIth the increase in the value of t, the g(t) will be going to decrease with the halving rate of t=5730, hence the function g(t) will half every 5730 years

b) WIth the increase in the value of t, the h(t) will be going to decrease with the halving rate of t=29, hence the function h(t) will half every 29 years
