The side chains of beta lengths are fixed alternately on opposite sides of the strand. The distance between aminoacids in a beta string is 3.5A which is lengthier in comparison to the 1.5A distance in alpha strands. As a result of this, beta sheets are more flexible than alpha helices and can be level and relatively twisted. The typical period of beta sheets in a protein is 6 amino p residues. The actual length ranges from 1 to 9 residues. Folding of membrane proteins has long been difficult as these proteins are typically large and made from several subunits. The proteins posses a top level of conformational flexibility—which will be necessary for them to conduct their purpose in the cell. Also, these proteins have equally hydrophobic surfaces, facing the membrane, and hydrophilic surfaces, facing the aqueous regions on either side of the membrane. The proteins are transfer laterally and reveal the elastic attributes of the lipid bilayer in which they\'re embedded.
