1 Compare what the figure predicts for a CPU introduced in 2
1. Compare what the figure predicts for a CPU introduced in 2006 with the chip in Figure 2. Show on the figure how you arrived at the expected number of transistors for 2006. You will need to hand this in. Discuss what might cause differences, if any, between the numbers. (5 pts.)
2. For the IC in Figure 2, assume that the chip has an area of about 1 cm2 , calculate how many transistors/cm2 there are for the chip shown in Figure 2. Based on your answer, and on Moore’s law, what would you expect the number of transistors/cm2 to be for ICs being manufactured in 2016? (Recall that the IC in Figure 2 is from 2006.) (10 pts.)
3. Calculate the approximate volume of a device at the 14 nm “technology node”. A technology node refers to the typical feature size for a given IC technology defined by the abilities of the fabrication tools used to manufacture the IC. Assume that the device can be approximated as a cube. For the volume of this cube, how many dopant atoms would you expect to be included in each device in a 14 nm technology node IC if your doping density is 1x1015 dopant atoms/cm3 .

1. The Moore\'s law says that the number of transistor on silicon integrated chip(Microprocessor) has been doubled in every 18 to 24 months. The graph is showing how the number of transistors increases year by year from 1971 to till now, although Gordon Moore observed this back in 1965. In figure 1 Y-axis represents the number of transistors and X-axis represents the year. You can approximately measure the number of transistors an Intel Pentium 4 chip have using the curve shown in figure 1. The actual number of transistors are 184,000,000 by the figure 2. The Moore\'s low predict number of transistors for Pentium 4 2006 chip from figure 1 are approximately 100,000,000. The difference is due to the fact that Moore\'s low predict the lower bound of the transistor count.
2. There are 184,000,000 per cm2 transistors are there on the chip. According to Moore\'s low and the data provided in figure II
5,088,000,000/cm2 transistor are on the chip in 2016.
