Draw a single card at random. Let A and B be the events: A = {draw a Heart}; B = {draw an Ace}. Are A and B independent? (Yes) Show why.

Solution

P(A) = 13/52 = 0.25

P(B) = 4/52 = 0.0769

P(A n B) = 1/52

and P(A) * P(B) = 13/52 * 4/52 = 1/52

So, P(A n B) = P(A) * P(B)

Hence , A and B are independent
