Identify one specific personal health behavior you would like to change or improve and explain why you want to make the change. In relation to the behavior you have chosen to change, refer to the Transtheoretical Stages of Change Model in chapter 1 and identify which stage of behavior change you are currently in. How do you know which stage you are in? Explain your answer by citing information related to the appropriate stage of change from your textbook or other reliable source. Describe in detail the process you have gone through or are going through to change this health behavior. What specific steps would you need to take now or in the future to maintain this behavior change?
Solution
I wish to involve in the weight loss and lifestyle modification programme. As being obese involves recruitment of many other complications like diabetes, hypertension etc., New lifestyle helps to be more energetic and hence I decided to reduce my weight. Transtheoritacal stages include Precontemplation - those who not plan to lose weight within 6 months Contemplation - planning to change but not prepared to take action Preparation - intending to take action and change in the immediate future Action - has made changes in the last 6 months or less Maintenance - has changed behavior for more than 6 months and working on preventing relapse. Termination - completely comes out from the behaviour In the 1st stage i dont want to lose weight and wished to remain same. I always had only positive thought for being over weight. I avoided the cons of over weight and pros of normal weight. Secondly, I reinforced pros over cons and identified ways to overcome perceived barriers. Third,I sticked on to particular chart. Encouraged family members to participate in the programme. I availed community resources like gym, playground for physical activity. Fourth, I decreased intake of dietary fat, carbohydrates and decreased caloric intake by 300 to 500 kcal/day. I performed exercised gradually from 45 to 60 min of moderate intensity .Performed most days of the week. I keep on monitoring myself ,set goal, controlled stimulus .I am having social support in the community. Now am in the stage 4 . I am performing physical activity and reduced food intake. In future, I will have verbal encouragement from my well wishers and I keep writting tips on how to maintain weight and prevent my mind from replasing to older stages.
