If we need about 3×10^12 ions per second with the selected speed for our experiment, about how many ions per second must the furnace emit? (We can use this information to help determine what furnace to order.)

If we need about 3 x 1012 ions per second with the selected speed for our experiment, then the number of ions per second must the furnace emit which given as :

N = (3 x 1012 ions per second) [(2 km/s) + (0.01 km/s) / (2 km/s) - (0.01 km/s)]

N = (1 x 1012 ions per second) (1.01)

N = 3.01 x 1012 ions/sec
