Solution

37.

a) We have to make a frequency table showing frequency of hurricanes in each categories during the decades.

So first we classify the categories in a column than the number of hurricanes during decdes of each type in the next column.

Thus in the first column categories are defined and second column no. of hurricanes in respective categories during decade.

b) Table for frequency of hurricane in each year

c) we will chose the categories and their frequency according to label.

22 a) Boxplot contain 5 measures

minimum, Q1,Q2,Q3,maximum.

Median= Q2

Commands in excel: for minimum:= MIN(array), Max: = Max (array), Qurt: = Quartile(array, quart)

Sample I is wild type

Measures for sample I is below : (calculated in excel)

168

Where minimum=0

Q1=25

Q2=80=median

Q3=103.5

Maximum=168

For sample II

Where minimum= 96, Q1= 106.75,Q2=142, Q3= 168, Maximum=195

From boxplots we can see that spd mutant has higher agression score.

b) range for wild type= Maximum- minimu= 168-0=168

range for spd mutant= 195-96=99

therefore wild type has a higher range.

c) inter quatile range= Q3-Q1

Wild type: IQr= 103.5-25= 78.5

Spd mutant: IQr= 168-106.75=61.25

Hence sample I has larger IQR.

d) Outliers in boxplot are:

Q1-1.5* IQR and Q3+1.5* IQR

for wild type ( 25-1.5*78.5, 103.5+1.5*78.5)= 102, 221.25

Similarly for spd mutant ( 14.875, 259.875)
