Oncogenic transformation of 3T3 cells is the best supporting evidence that explains the fact that conversion of normal somatic cell into a malignant one requires multiple mutations.This is usually known as multi-hit mdel of cancer induction according to which one cell when mutated first would pass the mutation to its progeny that would grow uncontrollably.This progeny cells could undergo a second mutation , grow uncontrollably and produce a small benign tumor.A third mutation in the benign tumor cells would give rise to many cells each of which now contained all three mutations.Lastly, it so happens that a mutation in these cells makes the cells of the progeny to pass to blood and other sites of the body, a phenomenon known as metastatis that is commonly associated with cancer cells.
