For you to solve this problem you need to learn the 3rd twenty year road plan also known as lucknow road plan from year 1981-2001.

Major features about this plan were:

In this plan there were three categories for road network system.

1. Primary system.

2.Secondary system (for State Highways(SH) and Major District Roads(MDR) )

SH(km) = 62.5*no.of towns in state - Area of State(km²)/50

Length of MDR can be determined using two formulae: (the higher of the two is taken)

By total area

MDR(km)= area of the state(km²)/12.5

By no of towns in the state

MDR(km)= 90*no.of towns in state

3.Tertiary system (for Other District Roads(ODR) and Village Roads(VR))

Now we\'ll solve the problem:

Given :

Total area=13400+46*100=18000 km²  

^{no. of Towns =12}

Now

1. Length of NH=Total area(km² )/50 Since For NH road density = 1 km /50 km² of area

=18000/50

NH=360km

2,Total length of SH

=18000/25

=720 km

SH(km) = 62.5*no.of towns in state - Area of State(km²)/50

=62.5*12 -18000/50

=327.5km

so SH =720km (higher of the above two)

3.Length of MDR

By total area

MDR(km)= area of the state(km²)/12.5

=18000/12.5

=1440km

By no of towns in the state

MDR(km)= 90*no.of towns in state

=90*12

=1080km

MDR=1440km

Till now we have calculated:

NH + SH +MDR=360+720+1440 =2520km

4. Total Length of all categories=18000*82/100 ( since Road Density = 82 km/100 km²)

=14760km

5.Length of ODR and VR = 14760km -2520km

=12240km
