The graph given is a transformation of y = 1/x Find a possible formula for the graph. Write the formula as y = ax + b/cx + d. Find the coordinates of the intercepts of the graph. x-intercept: y-intercept:

Solution

The given function is y=1/x

In the graph,vertical asymptote,x=1   and horizontal asymptote is ,y=2

Vertical asymtote,x=1

So we get x-1 in the bottom. An horizontal asymptote is y=2. It means the degree of the numberator and denominator is same. And since the degree of the bottom is 1,therefore the degree of the top too is 1

So we get

y=(2x-1)/(x-1)

b. y=(2x-1)/(x-1)

c. To find the x intercept we have to plug y=0

   0= (2x-1)/(x-1)

   x=1/2

X intercept is (1/2,0)

To find the y intercept we have to plug x=0

y= (2*0-1 )/(0-1)=

y intercept is (0,1)
