13. The molarity of an unknown binary acid was determined by a 4 tirations with values of 0.113 M, 0.079 M, 0.107 M, 0.111 M. One value appears suspect. Determine if it can be ascribed to accidental error, at the 95% confidence level. Can we justify discarding this measurement with respect to our final calculations for the experiment?

Solution

Out of four one value appears suspect. 0.113 M, 0.079 M, 0.107 M, 0.111 M.

i.e. prob for error - 0.25

As 0.25 > alpha =0.05, we cannot take this as accident and hence we cannot justify this as accidental error.
