A concert sold 255 tickets for a total of $3380. Each adult ticket was sold for $20 and each child ticket was sold for $10. How many adult tickets were sold?

Solution

x+y = 255.........................................(i)

20x + 10y = 3380 ....................................(ii)

I have considered here x = adults tickets , y= child tickets.

Just solving above equations we have,

x=83

and y = 172

Therefore, number of tickets sold by adults = 83

Lets check it here,

83*20 + 172*10 = 1660+1720=3380
